Sony’s be ramping up its beta testing for its PS3 virtual community PlayStation Home, but the test is still limited to those who’ve received invites. Not for much longer though; Home director Jack Buser has confirmed that the Home Open Beta will begin this year.

“Like we’ve said, we’re excited about moving PlayStation Home into its Open Beta stage this year. Once we make the move to Open Beta, everyone will have access to PlayStation Home,” Buser told IGN.

And will it be worth the long wait? According to Buser the answer’s a resounding yes.

“PlayStation Home is a new innovative service unlike anything else on the market and we have taken the time to make sure that it’s a great service,” said Buser. “This is a huge undertaking for the company and we want to deliver on what we’ve promised – a true 3D representation of the PlayStation community. What you see in PlayStation Home is just the frosting to the cake; we’ve created an entirely new platform for partners to create content for, and as an insider to what’s to come, it will be well worth the wait.”
