Speaking with IGN, Oblivion executive producer Todd Howard has said that the PlayStation 3 version of the epic RPG will be the best looking version of the game to date.

The PS3 is benefiting from us continuing to develop our core technology that drives all our Elder Scrolls games. Some of that is noticeable on the screen – like all the new graphic shaders – and some isn’t,” said Howard. “The best examples are those new shaders we have for how “near detail” and “far detail” blend together on the landscape. You no longer have a harsh line cutting across the two levels, they blend together seamlessly and the distant detail and land looks much nicer.

It was announced last month that the PS3 game would ship with the Nights of the Nine, a new quest offering 10-20 hours of additional gameplay. According to Howard there’s a very good chance this extra quest will eventually be released for the PC and Xbox 360 versions.

Speaking more about the PS3 version, Howard said that the game will not be utilising the tilt functionality of the Sixaxis controller, but they would very much like to offer downloadable content, but notes that this is something in Sony’s hands.

Oblivion will be available at the US launch of the PS3 on November 17 and will likely be a European launch title in March 2007.
