Japanese video game magazine and industry bible Famitsu has confirmed recent rumours that Beautiful Katamari is no longer in development for the PS3, meaning the Xbox 360 version is the only confirmed Katamari release on next-gen machines.

While rumours continue to circulate that an unconfirmed Wii version is on its way, PS3 owners will be disappointed to lose the next instalment of a fantastic series previously exclusive to Sony formats.

No reason for the cancellation has been confirmed, though industry commentators are bound to suggest the apparent complexity in the PS3’s architecture. Meanwhile, Microsoft are likely to be delighted by the news, as their console is continuing to struggle in Japan, the native home of the Katamari games.
