Portal 2 will feature the same content across all three platforms, Valve’s Chet Faliszek has told CVG.

The PS3 edition will sport Steam features, but Faliszek says when put side-by-side the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are “identical”.

“If you bought the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions and put them side by side you can see they’re identical games. The actual content is the same too across all platforms,” said Faliszek.

It’s only when you bring in Steam support that the PS3 edition shows an advantage.

“With the PS3 we can update more often, we don’t have to have someone else gate that ability. We can play between the PC and PS3 players because we can update more frequently.

“That’s our thing, we don’t want to hurt [either PS3 and PC users playing cross-platform] and now that we can update more frequently it’s easier for us to avoid that,” Faliszek added.

Portal 2 will be released April 22 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Valve typically chooses to offer DLC at no extra cost, but with Left 4 Dead and its sequel was forced to charge for the content on Xbox 360. Now that Steam is built into the PS3 edition of Portal 2, we expect Valve to supply free updates and new content to both PC and PS3.
