The launch of PlayStation 4 has helped boost PlayStation Vita sales significantly, MCV reports.

According to the magazine, Vita sales rose by 68 per cent in the week of PS4’s launch, and by 65 per cent the week after. It isn’t known how many units that translates to, however.

Sony attributes the hardware’s success to the launch of the new console, which can use the Vita as a second screen device or as a replacement for a TV, and to a new marketing campaign.

“PS Vita sales wise we are continuing to see strong week-on-week growth since our latest campaign kicked in,” said senior product manager Ben Law. “The new TV advert went live this week and we’ve already seen amazing feedback from PS4 owners on the Remote Play feature, and the success of Tearaway highlights what [a] great proposition PS Vita is, either as a standalone device or as the perfect companion to PS4.”

The PS4 launch could be the breakthrough the handheld has been waiting for: the device has struggled to make too much of a dent in the market in its eighteen months prior.
