Namco Bandai appears to have headed back in time to a point where it was acceptable to release a Ridge Racer game with just a handful of content.

According to impressions from a feature complete build of Ridge Racer on PS Vita, the game will sport just three circuits: Harborline 765, Highland Cliffs and Southbay Docks. Each has been found in earlier Ridge Racer titles and can be raced in normal and reverse variants.

Furthermore, you’ll only have five cars to race in. The only saving grace for Namco Bandai is the lower than usual price of ¥3,980. The download version is priced ¥3,580, but can be had even cheaper – ¥2,980 (£25) – until the end of March. PS Vita games in Japan tend to retail at around £40.

DLC is also planned, but this may come at a cost.

Ridge Racer will form part of the UK PS Vita launch line-up, which includes 11 titles from Sony Computer Entertainment.

The game sounds more like a cheap downloadable title than a full retail release. Free track DLC would help remedy the issue, but three circuits doesn’t cut it in 2011. Namco Bandai could look into adding more content for the European and US release of the game in February.
