The Last of Us Part 2 is set to join PS Plus as a bonus addition before the exciting releases confirmed for October 2025. Sony recently conducted a State of Play, and this fantastic event confirmed the previously leaked release of Microsoft Flight Simulator on PS5, and it also brought back Marvel’s Wolverine after years of hiding following the aftermath of huge leaks. Unfortunately, there was no appearance of the heavily rumored God of War 2.5D Metroidvania spin-off, but this perhaps makes sense following reports of an internal delay. The State of Play was largely excellent, and Sony also used it to confirm games for PS Plus in October 2025 as well as the addition of The Last of Us Part 2.
The Last of Us Part 2 joins PS Plus
The Last of Us Part 2 is joining PS Plus Extra on September 26th. This is to celebrate what is widely known as The Last of Us day.
If you are on PS5, you will be able to enjoy The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered that includes added content such as the roguelike No Return mode. Meanwhile, if you are still stuck on PS4, you will just have access to the regular version of The Last of Us 2 that launched in 2020.
The Last of Us Part 2 is way more divisive than its universally beloved predecessor. It’s one of Sony’s biggest exclusives, but impressions usually land on the side of two extremes in which people either love the story and characters, or people hate the story as well as Ellie and particularly Abby.
As for the future of the franchise, there is no confirmation of The Last of Us Part 3 right now. Druckmann has previously said there’s a story outline for The Last of Us 3, but it won’t be made anytime soon as Naughty Dog’s next experience is a sci-fi bounty hunter action game called Intergalactic.
PS Plus October 2025 games
Sony’s September State of Play confirmed the following PS Plus Essential games for October 2025:
- Alan Wake 2
- Goat Simulator 3
- Cocoon
All the above will join Essential on October 7th. While Goat Simulator 3 and Cocoon are fun, Alan Wake 2 is a perfect addition for the month of Halloween. It has some incredible frights, and it is a game PS Plus subscribers should plan to brave on the night of All Hallow’s Eve.
Lastly, the following additions are confirmed for PS Plus Premium:
- Tekken 3
- SoulCalibur 3
- Tomb Raider Anniversary
Sony merely states the above for “later this year,” so we don’t know exactly when they will join. Tomb Raider Anniversary was recently leaked for PS Plus, and it seems likely to join in October as the series is turning 29-years old next month.
