While the PS Plus additions for April 2025 have been great with the likes of Hogwarts Legacy and the best reviewed game of 2025 so far, there has been a lot of controversy with Sony announcing price increases. They announced price increases for PS5 consoles, as well as PS Plus subscriptions in over 15-countries. However, even more PS Plus price increases have been discovered in countries previously not announced by Sony, and this has resulted in players claiming they are “cancelling” their subscription.

Even more PS Plus price increases discovered

Previously, Sony announced PS Plus price increases for the following countries and regions:

  • Argentina
  • Bolivia
  • Chile
  • Colombia
  • Costa Rica
  • Ecuador
  • El Salvador
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • Mexico
  • Nicaragua
  • Panama
  • Paraguay
  • Peru
  • Uruguay
  • Australia
  • South Korea
  • Southeast Asia
    • Singapore
    • Malaysia
    • Thailand
    • Indonesia

All of the above were confirmed to be receiving price increases on April 16th. However, following said date, players in Turkey and Canada also received emails informing them of a price increase despite no announcement from Sony.

Per engagdet, for Canada, the new CA$ prices are as follows:

Essential:

  • $14 monthly (up from $12)
  • $35 for three months (up from $30)
  • $110 annually (up from $95)

Extra:

  • $21 monthly (up from $18)
  • $56 for three months (up from $50)
  • $190 annually (up from $155)

Premium:

  • $25 monthly (up from $21)
  • $69 for three months (up from $60)
  • $225 for a year (up from $190).

Similar to all the other regions and countries listed, the above increased prices came into effect in Canda on April 16th for PlayStation gamers who are not subscribed. For anyone who is subscribed, the new prices come into effect after June 24th at the time of your next billing.

PlayStation gamers claim to be “cancelling” PS Plus

Responding to the PS Plus price increase in Canada, a lot of players on Reddit have said that they are “cancelling” their subscription because the value offered by Sony is very poor.

One comment says, “and cancelled, thank you for the reminder Sony,” while another comment says, “Get the f*** out of here lmao won’t be renewing this again. That’s absolutely ridiculous. F*** off”. As you can imagine, there are many expletive comments with people telling Sony to “go f*** yourselves”.

Beyond just cancelling their PS Plus subscription, many also claim that this is pushing them towards making the PS5 their last PlayStation console. One comment says, “Yeah, I’m cancelling. This is probably my push to fully convert to having a switch and PC,” while another agrees, “This is my last generation with PlayStation, instead of getting the ps6 I’ll go to PC”.

The biggest issue with the price increases is that, aside from just happening, the value of PS Plus isn’t getting any better. We’re still only getting three monthly games, and, usually, the Extra and Premium additions are nothing major, except for rare instances such as this April where we received Blue Prince.

Compared to Xbox Game Pass, the value of PS Plus is pretty lacklustre. Game Pass is getting day one mega exclusives like the leaked Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscure 33, meanwhile, Sony only gets day-one releases on a rare occasion, and they never give away their AAA exclusives day-one on PS Plus Extra or Premium.
