It’s been a fantastic month for PS Plus subscribers. The August Essential selection was spearheaded by the excellent Lies of P, and we have just received the Extra and Premium additions, including Sword of the Sea as a day-one release and the classic PS1 versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3. However, there is a staggered release for certain games up until September for some regions. Now, as if the additions weren’t good enough already, another bonus free new game has been added to PS Plus Extra in a surprise shadow drop.

PS Plus Extra gets bonus free new game

On the PlayStation Blog, Sony announced the following PS Plus Extra and Premium additions for August 2025:

  • Mortal Kombat 1
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
  • Sword of the Sea
  • Indika
  • Harold Halibut
  • Unicorn Overlord
  • Earth Defense Force 6
  • Atelier Ryz 3 Alchemist of the End & the secret sky

However, in a surprise shadowdrop, the Rogue Prince of Persia has been added to Extra. This means Extra and Premium subscribers can play the new day-one release at no added cost.

The game has only just come out today, August 20th, so it is another day-one release in addition to Sword of the Sea. Regarding Sword of the Sea, it is a fantastic experience that has received rave reviews with an 89 aggregate on Metacritic, and its developer has also spoken about how PlayStation “saved us” with support that resulted in the PlayStation Plus launch.

As for Rogue Prince of Persia, it is developed by Evil Empire and published by Ubisoft. It is a 2D sidescroller with seamless movement and “fast-paced acrobatic combat” in the form of a roguelite.

Per the game’s description on the PSN store, “Try your best to right your wrongs: each failure is a new chance to explore different paths, discover secrets, meet new characters, and use the knowledge gained from past attempts to change your people’s fate and prove yourself as the true Prince of Persia”.

For gameplay, “agility is your greatest weapon. Dodge traps, wall-run, chain acrobatic combos, and strike with precision”. You will also, “Discover, unlock, and master over 100 unique weapons and medallions. Adapt, upgrade, and customize your build with each run, crafting deadly combinations that fit your playstyle”.

If you are not subscribed to Extra, the game is available to buy for £24.99.
