August has been a fantastic month for PS Plus subscribers. Fantastic games such as Lies of P have headlined the Essential selection, meanwhile, Extra is set to receive a day-one release “highly recommended” by former PlayStation president, Shuhei Yoshida. While there’s a lot of great games set to be added to the Extra catalogue, the PS Plus August 2025 Extra games include a staggered release until September for some regions.

PS Plus August 2025 games staggered release in some regions

As announced by the PlayStation Blog, the PS Plus August 2025 Extra and Premium games are set to come out on August 19th. These games include the day-one release of Sword of the Sea from Giant Squid, and there’s also the likes of Marvel’s Spider-Man, Mortal Kombat 1, and Coral Island.

While they come out on August 19th, there is a staggered release for Australia and Singapore as announced by PlayStationAU on X and the Southeast PlayStation Blog. Below is the staggered release schedule as announced by PlayStationAU, and it’s the same for Singapore:

August 13th:

  • Mortal Kombat 1

August 19th:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man
  • Sword of the Sea
  • Unicorn Overlord

August 26th:

  • Earth Defense Force 6
  • Coral Island

September 9th:

  • Indika
  • Harold Halibut
  • Atelier Ryza 3 Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key

There’s no mention why these games have a staggered release in Australia and Singapore, but this isn’t the first time a staggered release has occurred. Fortunately, depending on where you sit in the world, it appears to only affect Australia and Singapore this time.

While no official reason is provided by Sony, fans on Reddit are speculating it could possibly be part of an experiment. No idea the purpose of this experiment, but maybe Sony is toying with the possibility of releasing PS Plus Extra games at different dates instead of just in one collective.

Fortunately, if you reside in either Australia or Singapore, you will be able to play Shuhei Yoshida’s “favorite” game at Summer Game Fest 2025, Sword of the Sea, day one. Unfortunately, you will have to wait another week to play the excellent Coral Island that has just received multiplayer.

In other PlayStation news, Halo ports for PS5 have leaked following a teased crossover between Microsoft’s flagship IP and Helldivers 2.
