According to Sony’s Peter Edward, director of PlayStation Home, the PS3 virtual community now has “seven million inhabitants”, three million of which come from Europe. These inhabitants have downloaded six million virtual items between them.
While the seven million figure certainly sounds impressive, it’s worth pointing out that this includes every user to have registered a Home account and is not an indication of active Home users.
A more accurate representation of the current active PS Home userbase might be closer to one million – the Red Bull Air Race and Watchmen promotions logged 873,136 and 812,544 unique users respectively.
Edward also revealed that Home’s userbase is most definitely core gamer heavy, with 80 per cent of its users being 18-35 year-old males.
