Announced in today’s Pokémon Direct, Pokémon Sword & Shield introduces the new Poké Jobs feature, where players can send their Pokémon on tasks and quests to gain experience.

On their travels, players catch flocks upon flocks of Pokémon, but only really use their favourites to battle and explore the region. The 2016 title, Pokémon Sun and Moon, enabled boxed Pokémon to visit the Poke Pelago to earn experience points, discover treasure and harvest Berries for the player, and Pokémon Sword & Shield will employ a similar mechanic.

Available Poké Jobs will be advertised at Rotomi in Pokémon Centres, and players can send boxed Pokémon directly to fulfil the quest, which could be heavy lifting on construction sites, work on a farm, or even cooking.

Pokémon will gain experience from the posting, in Exp. Points or base points, determined by how many are sent, how long they worked for and their types. It’s important to match the Pokémon type to the job to score reward items; for example construction work requires brawny Pokémon, and farm work might need Grass, Water and Ground dispositions.

I can’t wait to send legions of Pikachu to fix the downed WiFi on a university campus, or a Kadabra to entertain at a children’s birthday party, or maybe a couple of Sandshrew to free a car stuck in the mud.

Pokémon Sword & Shield will release exclusively for the Switch on November 15. Watch the Pokémon Direct below.
