There’s a tribute to Satoru Iwata, the late Nintendo president, in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Moon on Nintendo 3DS, as spotted by Serebii.net (via Eurogamer).

If you head to developer Game Freak’s in-game building with a Pokémon from either Pokémon Gold or Silver in your party, you’ll be told a little Iwata-related tidbit that should bring a smile to your face.

‘When we were having trouble fitting all the data in for Gold and Silver, and we were really in a pinch, this amazing guy came along and made a program for us that solved all our problems,’ one of the characters in Game Freak’s office will tell you. ‘He went on to become the amazing president of a real big company soon after that, too.’

If you have a Pokémon from one of the other games in the series on your person you’ll be told trivia notes on those games, too.

The story about Gold and Silver refers to Satoru Iwata wanting to include the Kanto region from Pokémon Red and Blue in G&S, on top of the Johto region that Game Freak had created for the game. Iwata was able to compress the data enough to include both areas, and as the above says, then went onto become Nintendo president.
