The UK launch of hit mobile title Pokemon Go has been put on pause while the game’s developer works on fixing server stability.
The game launched in the US and Australia last week, but some players quickly ran into server troubles as they attempted to get online. The game sees players trying to track down Pokemon in real life, encouraging them to exercise by exploring their surroundings.
But its popularity caught the game’s developer Niantic by surprise, CEO John Hanke tells Business Insider, leading to the international release being “paused until [Niantic is] comfortable” the game’s servers are able to hold up. A revised release date has yet to be confirmed.
“We thought the game would be popular, but it obviously struck a nerve,” Hanke says.
Pokemon Go shot straight to the top of the iTunes Charts following its release last week, and led to Nintendo’s share price jumping by almost a quarter.
