Earlier this week, the first global catch event for Pokémon Go was announced. Players had just a week to catch three billion pocket monsters in the Global Catch Challenge, with the ultimate goal of unlocking Farfetch’d, previously a pokémon exclusive to Japan, worldwide for 48 hours (Kangaskhan will be made available in East Asia).
Things got off to a bit of a bumpy start, but we’ve hit the mid point of the challenge, and everyone has pooled their efforts to hit 1.5 billion pokémon caught. This has unlocked the next tier of rewards, so everyone gets double XP and Stardust, as well as an increase in spawns of the pokémon themselves.
Great work, Trainers! You’ve collectively caught over 1.5 billion Pokémon and unlocked even more rewards during the #PokemonGOtravel Global Catch Challenge. pic.twitter.com/nHTM9opnlc

These boosts should increase the rate of capture once again, which means the world is on track to unlock Farfetch’d and Kangaskhan by November 26. We believe in you, everyone!
