Pokemon Company CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara has hinted that a new Pokemon game could be on the way later in the year. This isn’t necessarily a new Pokemon adventure for 3DS, or the Black/White equivalent of Emerald or Platinum, but something different altogether.

In an interview with Famitsu – relayed by a blogger known as Sinobi, who gets the magazine ahead of time – Ishihara said that in addition to the free Pokedex app for the 3DS e-shop, and Super Pokémon Scramble, Pokemon Co. has things in the works that will “surprise players at the same level as in the first half of the year.”

Sinobi believes that we could be seeing a new Pokemon title with DS-3DS connectivity, but as the interview has yet to be translated, this isn’t much to go on.

While the new game/content is expected to hit later in the year, it’s doubtful this will arrive in the UK at the same time.

Even attempting a guess at what this could be is difficult. A new Mystery Dungeon game, perhaps? That could have 3DS functionality integrated without too much hassle. It’d be nice if it was the Black/White follow up (Grey), as this could make great use of the 3DS Pokedex, but it’s still too early for that – even in Japan. Time will tell.
