PlayStation has announced that it’s working on a new customisable controller kit for the PlayStation 5 entitled Project Leonardo.

The idea of the project is similar to that of the Xbox Adaptive Controller, where players will be able to work with a range of accessibility accessories and add-ons to allow more options for controlling games, particularly for those who find it difficult to use a more traditional controller.

The controller kit has been designed in partnership between Sony and a number of “accessibility experts, community members and game developers”.

The kit itself includes a sort of UFO-shaped device, which can be customised with swappable buttons that can be attached in any number of configurations.

In addition, the kit also comes with a number of analog stick caps, and the distance of the analog sticks themselves can even be adjusted as necessary.

This pairs with a bunch of software features on the console itself – so buttons can be programmed and mapped to functions – with players even able to map multiple functions onto one button.

The kit can be used standalone, or paired with other accessories, such as the DualSense wireless controller. You can even link up to two Project Leonardo controllers and a DualSense together as a single controller – for example, if a friend or family member wants to assist the player.

Project Leonardo is currently still in development, and doesn’t have a price or expected release date just yet – but hopefully we’ll hear more soon.
