Following the announcement of the PS5 Pro, Sony is already hard at work on the PS6. As the gaming giant works on its next generation of hardware, the company has stated it will not abandon the console industry.

PlayStation thinks PCs are too “difficult”

After following Xbox’s lead to put key exclusives on PC, many have suggested PlayStation is planning to leave consoles behind. In an interview with Nikkei, Sony joint CEO Hideaki Nishino explained that consoles will remain at the “core” of the business.

The Sony executive explained that mobile games have been made poor with adverts, and PCs are too complex for casual gamers. With this in mind, the company  will continue to serve the console market for as long as it can.

“I think that with mobile devices, there are many games that show advertisements, and PCs are difficult to set up,” Nishino said (via VGC). “But with PlayStation, once you turn it on, you can experience the content you bought straight away”

Despite the rising cost of console hardware, evidenced by the exorbitant price of the PS5 Pro, Sony’s hardware focus isn’t disappearing.

Why PS5  games are on PC

While the console market is an industry of its own, Sony is keen to put its key console exclusives on PC. Many gamers have questioned this move, but with console user base growth slowing down, it’s the only way to make more money.

“There is no doubt that consoles will be at the core of our business, but by offering titles for platforms other than consoles, we will reach a wider range of customers,” the joint-CEO explained.

While PlayStation may be following Xbox’s lead in this case, that doesn’t mean it’ll go all the way. At the time of writing, no PS5 exclusive games are planned to launch on Xbox or Nintendo Switch, unlike Xbox’s Indiana Jones and The Great Circle

Most gamers were already certain Sony would not be abandoning its console market. However, with a heavy push towards cloud gaming, and the move to PC, there is some sense that the market has changed forever.

With trademarks registered all the way up to the PS10, we could have many more generations before Sony gives up the chase.
