PlayStation is dipping it’s toe back in the often unsteady waters of FMV, with a movie-length branching FMV game called Erica. Erica, which was announced at Paris Games Week, is developed by Flavourworks in London, and features branching paths that you, as a player, choose.

According to Flavourworks, ‘eveyr choice has a profound effect on what the player will see next.’ The trailer has a sinister, neo-noir thriller kind of vibe to it. The game uses PlayLink, Sony’s ‘social gaming’ system that allows a kind of collaborative multiplayer using smartphones or tablets. Using it, you can select options for Erica, as well as stuff like turning a key in a lock, or wiping condensation off a mirror.

It sounds like Erica is going to be like a feature film that you whack on of an evening, but that you have to actively pay attention to.
