PlayStation Europe president Jim Ryan has said that he doesn’t believe Sony did a “good enough job” promoting Ico and Shadow of the Colossus in Europe – a mistake he’s determined not to make with next year’s The Last Guardian.

Speaking in this week’s issue of MCV, Ryan explained that he “berated my European management team for our inability – and this is past management – to really make the most of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

“I loved Ico, it was one of the few times where I felt deeply emotionally moved by a video game. I feel that we didn’t do a good enough job in Europe. The game sold relatively better elsewhere in the world. If The Last Guardian doesn’t become a hit in Europe, it will absolutely not be for a lack of trying.”

Both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus launched on PS2 to critical acclaim in the early-to-mid 2000s, although sales figures for either title have never formally been revealed. The pair were both later re-released on PS3 in the Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Classics HD Collection.

The Last Guardian is – hopefully – due to release on PS4 next year.
