SEGA has announced the launch of PlaySEGA, a completely new SEGA experience for all gaming and social networking fans.

PlaySEGA is described as a mini web game portal with a selection of arcade, word, card, puzzle, quiz, Sonic and sports titles, which are available for free to all PC and Mac users. Titles include Brain Assist, Sonic at the Olympic Games and brand new SEGA games created exclusively for PlaySEGA such as Ice Shuffle, Hollywood Adventure Quiz and Aquatic Word Burst. A selection of all-new Guest Games will be revealed soon, all entirely free.

Each game features high score leader boards and playing games earns PlaySEGA Rings, a currency which can be used to customise the site and create an escape area – a profile page. Escape areas include a New York apartment, Swiss chalet, Caribbean villa and a haunted house! Rings can also be used to purchase luxury items and decorate their Escape Areas with items including; furniture, TVs, lights, flooring and much more.

In addition to a host of free content, the portal will also offer a PlaySEGA VIP area. This part of the site will be available for a small charge and will offer access to dozens more web games, including newly acquired titles specifically created for PlaySEGA, along with fan favourites from the respected SEGA Mega Drive years. These titles include Columns, Puyo Pop, Chu Chu Rocket, Sonic The Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball Tip n’ Tilt.

“What started off as a small project within the SEGA Network Group has now caught the imagination of the entire company,” explained Nick Pili, Network Business Director, SEGA of Europe. “I have suggestions for new games filling up my in-box, from the CEO, to staff I’ve never even met over in our Japanese, European and US offices.”

PlaySEGA is open to visitors now.
