One of the surprise hits of Sony’s E3 conference yesterday was ModNation Racers, a kart racing game from United Front Games that looks to bring the creation and sharing aspects of LittleBigPlanet to the racing genre.
In the PS3 exclusive, due for release in 2010, you’ll be able to create your own racing driver avatar, design a unique vehicle and even build your own tracks. The on-stage demo at the press conference highlighted just how easy track creation is, with a full course being designed from scratch, complete with scenery and power-ups in just five minutes.
As with LittleBigPlanet part of the fun will be how users can share their designs with friends and rate other people’s work, meaning the best should stand out from the crowd. While community seems to be a focus, ModNation Racers will also include a story campaign that follows your driver as he climbs to the top of the pack.
ModNation Racers is currently without a firm release date, but it is due exclusively for the PS3 in 2010.
