Empire Interactive has announced the return of the puzzle franchise Pipe Mania, confirmed for release in 2008 for Wii, Nintendo DS, PS2, PSP, PC and Xbox LIVE Arcade.

The original Pipe Mania was published by Empire in 1989 and ranks as one of the most ported puzzle games of all time, achieving worldwide sales of more than four million units.

Its success was largely down to the simple yet addictive nature of the gameplay, which required players to lay down pipes on a tiled grid in order to keep the constantly flowing Flooze moving for as long as possible without spilling out.

The new version for modern consoles builds on the simple gameplay and adds expanded game modes, new themes, new play mechanics and new pipe pieces.

Pipe Mania is scheduled for release on Nintendo DS, PS2, PSP and PC in June, with the Wii and XBLA versions set for September.
