Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire's first major slice of DLC, Beast of Winter, will launch on August 2, developer Obsidian has confirmed today.

For those out of the loop, Beast of Winter offers more nautical adventuring, with players now able to set sail for Deadfire Archipelago's southernmost region, specifically on an island inhabited a bunch of crazed cultists.

Beast of Winter will also be joined by Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire update 2.0 and the story-based Deck of Many Things, both of which can be snapped up for free.

Obsidian revealed that the update will implement a number of key bug fixes and balance improvements, as well as challenge modes that look set to put players to the test by offering 'unique and interesting ways to play through the game.'

Meanwhile, Deck of Many things focuses on the mysterious, eponymous ship that has sailed in from the East to flog players a range of magical goodies.

Beast of Winter will be followed by September's Seeker, Slayer, Survivor and November's The Forgotten Sanctum.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire was released on PC back in May and will be hitting PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the fourth quarter of 2018.
