You’d be forgiven for thinking Liverpudlian Peter Moore, the president of EA Sports and a man who’s in his fifties, wouldn’t be best qualified to give advice on real world sports, despite his high-powered job recreating them in video games. You’d be wrong.
According to FIFA 10 producer David Rutter, Liverpool fan Peter Moore is a “very good footballer”, runs marathons, and even hit the bar in a real life Soccer AM-style Crossbar Challenge.
When asked what he’s like as a boss, Rutter told VideoGamer.com: “He’s all right actually. He’s quite funny. I get on pretty well with him. He’s an interesting character. He’s a massive footie fan, well he’s a massive sports fan, but he’s from Liverpool so he’s a massive Liverpool fan.”
Not only that, but it seems Mr Moore ‘aint half bad when it comes to kicking a ball around a football pitch.
Rutter said he hit the crossbar from the centre spot on his second attempt after he took him to a Vancouver football pitch for a Crossbar Challenge with others from the FIFA development team.
As anyone who’s watched Sky football show Soccer AM will know, the Crossbar Challenge sees real world footballers attempt to hit the crossbar of a goal from the centre spot on a full-sized pitch.
“Last year or the year before, the first time he came to visit the studio we got him out on the football pitch,” Rutter explained. “He’s a very good footballer. I think he played semi-pro. He’s a left back or a right back. So we did the hit the Crossbar Challenge like they have on Soccer AM. Three people did it, and he hit the crossbar on his second go, from the centre.”
When asked if the tale was, in reality, not entirely true, Rutter insisted he was telling the truth.
“No honestly. Honestly. He’s a very, very good football player. He’s always ribbing me, because I run marathons occasionally and he’s run marathons as well. He’s a pretty sprightly old dude. He’ll love me saying that!”
So there you have it. Peter Moore, president of EA Sports, hit the bar on a crossbar challenge. Perhaps he knows a thing or two about football after all!
