Fable creator Peter Molyneux has added his two pence to those mouth-watering Fable 4 rumours, suggesting a new entry in the Xbox-exclusive franchise should be a prequel to the original title.

During a chinwag with IGN, the former Lionhead boss reckons that setting the game before Fable 1 would be the ‘perfect’ launch pad for a strong narrative. In this time period, the world of Albion would be more ‘primitive’ while scrapping could conceivably take on a more ‘brutal’ edge, offered Molyneux.

‘The story would follow the founding members of the heroes guild, why it was set up,’ he said, adding that he reckons Fable 4 should adopt a ‘brutal, visceral, and fluid’ combat system.

Elsewhere, Molyneux feels the new game should introduce a revamped magic system, while weapons including short swords, long swords, daggers, spears, crossbows could feature their own unique feel and specialities.

Finally, the industry heavyweight said he’d like to see the team introduce more animals into the mix, including rideable dragons and ‘god-sized’ giants, plus a marriage and co-op system.

‘Having a familiar of your choice (bird, cat, dog, goldfish???) which assists you with magic and bonds with you’ is another idea being thrown around in Molyneux’s noggin.

Fable 4 is reportedly in development at Playground Games, the studio responsible for the critically acclaimed Forza Horizon series. The franchise has been on ice since the closure of Lionhead Studios, which was working on Fable Legends at the time.
