Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is not in development for PlayStation Vita, Konami has confirmed. A handheld version of the game will, however, ship on 3DS and PSP.

“There will not be a Vita version of PES this year,” said PES’s senior producer Naoya Hatsumi talking to CVG.

“But we are not saying that we are ignoring PS Vita – that’s not the case. We have been exploring the possibility of having a PS Vita version. We keep experimenting.”

A Vita version of PES 2013 was absent from the list of confirmed formats when Konami announced the title last month, leading to speculation that the game may not make it onto Sony’s handheld.

Nonetheless, you’ll still be able to pick up the game on almost every other format when it launches in the autumn, including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, PC, Wii, 3DS and PSP.

Pro Evolution Soccer titles have traditionally sold well on portable platforms, so Konami’s decision to skip the format seems odd – particularly given rival FIFA’s success on Vita earlier this year.
