PES 2013 will release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on September 21, Konami has announced. Versions for Wii, 3DS, PS2 and PSP will arrive at a later date.

The date gives PES 2013 a week-long retail head start over rival FIFA 13, which launches one week later on September 28.

It’ll be the first time PES has launched before FIFA in 9 years. The last PES game to launch before FIFA was PS2 classic Pro Evolution Soccer 3 back in October 2003.

VideoGamer.com had previously been told that PES 2013 would be launching prior to FIFA 13.

PES 2013 features a host of improvements over last year’s game, including PES Full Control, which grants players more control over the direction of passes and shots; Player ID, which aims to recreate the real life behaviour of particular players; and ProActive AI, which, you guessed it, improves player AI.

Konami is also offering a pre-order incentive in the form of a limited UEFA Champions League steelbook edition. The specially-packaged version includes special DLC code to redeem the Historic UEFA Champions League Match Balls used in the competition and other official elements.

The UK will also offer a second, Manchester United-themed steelbook edition for pre-orders, boasting the club’s livery on its cover.
