Take-Two Interactive have announced that a game based on the classic comedy animation Family Guy is to start production, set for release through their 2K Games label.

Whilst no particulars have been revealed, it is known that the title will be a third-person action game, with players controlling Stewie, Brian and Peter Griffin – no doubt this will stretch to the remainder of the Griffin family too.

The rights to the game have been granted by Twentieth Century Fox, giving Take-Two the option of releasing the title on PC, consoles and handheld formats. Again, no solid details have been revealed.

Peter Byrne, Executive Vice President of Fox Licensing and Merchandising, said:”Take-Two has unparalleled experience in reaching what is the core Family Guy demographic and we are really excited to be collaborating with them on bringing the Griffins to the gaming community.” He went on: “There’s an insatiable demand for merchandise currently, but we are taking a very long term view of building Family Guy into a major franchise for the studio on multiple levels”

No details on a developer have been released, in keeping with the “no details” format of the news, but when we hear we’ll be sure to tell you.

And for all those with access to American TV – the new season of Family Guy starts May 1st.
