Payday 2 will run at native 1080p on both PS4 and Xbox One, but it probably won't hit 60 frames per second on either platform, producer Almir Listo has suggested, telling that Overkill is hoping to get the game running at around 35-40fps for the majority of time.

"I can't give a specific number," Listo told when asked about the target framerate for the current-gen re-release. "We're pushing it as high as we possibly can. Say hypothetically Payday 2 was 30fps roughly - between 25fps and 30fps on [Xbox 360 and PS3] - then I would say at least 35/40fps [on PS4 and Xbox One]. But I would rather have our community be surprised by the improved fps than disappointed by us saying, 'Yeah, it's going to be 65fps'."

Listo explains that while the developer could have aimed for 60fps on PS4 and Xbox One, it would have come at the cost of the number of enemies on-screen.

"What people have to realise is that, hypothetically saying, if we weren't able to go 60fps, we could do that, but that would mean we could only show four enemies at a time on-screen," he continued. "And that isn't what Payday is about. Payday is about the onslaught of police officers coming at you at the same time, 20-30 rushing you. And that's something people have to take note of when they do those comparisons.

"Those AAA games, if I may generalise, they always keep these things in mind and they might design the game with that in mind. But with us, we focus first and foremost on making it the best gameplay experience it can be and then we focus on making it look as good as possible."

Payday 2: Crimewave Edition launches on PS4 and Xbox One in June, and features the original game along with a year's worth of DLC.
