Paladins: Champions of the Realm is the latest game to unveil a battle royale mode, and have actually called theirs Battlegrounds. Go hard or go home, I suppose.

Paladins is a free-to-play hero shooter, so Hi-Rez studios is touting this as the first ever hero-shooter battle royale. They should be careful, though, because when Fortnite unveiled its own Fortnite: Battle Royale the VP for Bluehole, the company that published PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, came out of the gate threatening ‘further action’. This doesn’t seem to have manifested thus far, though.

In Paladins: Battlegrounds the matches last 20 minutes and are designed to be played in teams on massive maps, making use of mounts key to success. There’s contracting fog which I’m sure is in no way similar to the contracting electric barrier in PUBG. The mode is in early alpha, with a full release slated for later this year.

Meanwhile the breakout battle royale star PUBG continues to rack up the numbers. Got to say I’m very much enjoying Paladins: Battlegrounds though. Like. Fair play, lads. But you might get in trouble.
