Update: Blizzard has announced a May 24 release date for Overwatch and also confirmed details of early access.
“Following the head-start period on May 3-4 for those who have pre-ordered, gamers everywhere will be able to assemble a team of friends and check out the game free during the all-access period from May 5-9,” reads the release from Blizzard this afternoon.
In addition, the May-3 early access is only available to UK gamers who pre-order from GAME.
Original report: Overwatch will enter open beta on May 3 before releasing in full on May 24, according to an advert allegedly published ahead of schedule.
The advert was reportedly posted on IGN last night, and was grabbed by a member of NeoGAF prior to its removal. As well as the two dates, the ad also suggests that players must pre-order by April 29 to gain early access to the open beta, indicating it may go live to pre-order users the weekend prior to its open launch.
Blizzard has yet to formally announce a release date for Overwatch or confirm when the beta will go live, but has confirmed that it will hit PS4, Xbox One and PC this spring.
If accurate, though, the leaked date would mean that the open beta is due to go live the same day Gearbox’s rival hero-shooter Battleborn releases worldwide.
