Overwatch came charging out the blocks when it launched in May, racing to 15 million players as of the beginning of August.

Blizzard has now announced that the game has reached the 20 million player milestone. Five million new players added in two months equates to 3424 players joining the game every hour.

The new figure doesn’t mean Blizzard has sold 20 million copies of the game, nor do we know how many are actually active, but there’s no denying Overwatch is a bonafide smash hit that is likely to stick around for some time to come.

Blizzard is a huge fan of multi million player bases, with Hearthstone surpassing 50 million players back in June and World of Warcraft on the up since the release of the Legion expansion.

Overwatch players can currently enjoy the Halloween Terror event, as detailed in the trailer below.

Things aren’t going quite as well for Overwatch rival Battleborn, which Take-Two said had not sold to expectations, with many – including our own David Scammell – calling for the title to be made free-to-play.
