World of Warcraft Legion, the MMO’s sixth expansion, sold a record equalling 3.3 million copies on launch day, Blizzard has announced.

This figure is on par with earlier expansions Warlords of Draenor and Cataclysm, becoming one of the fastest-selling PC games ever.

Furthermore, WoW’s launch week player concurrency hit its highest point since the 2010 launch of Cataclysm.

“It’s been a thrill to see players hunting demons, powering up Artifacts, and freely exploring all the new zones in Legion,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We worked hard to make this the best World of Warcraft expansion yet, and we look forward to providing players with even more content as Legion’s epic story unfolds in the months ahead.”

This new content begins with Patch 7.1: Return of Karazhan, featuring a re-imagined version of one of WoW’s most popular raids.
