Overwatch will launch competitive play today on PC and next week on PS4 and Xbox One, Blizzard has confirm in a forum post.

“We wanted to be upfront and let players know that we won’t be able to release our Competitive Play patch on all platforms at the same time,” explains Blizzard. “The patch will be going live on PC today, while PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players can expect it sometime next week. We don’t have an exact date to share, but we can confirm that the patch is going through approvals right now on both platforms.”

Blizzard admits this isn’t ideal and is working to “refine” its patching process to sync up releases “across platforms as closely possible”.

Given we’re already into the summer, Blizzard also confirmed that the inaugural Summer 2016 competitive season will only run for 1.5 months, having technically started back on June 1. The Summer 2016 season will end on August 18 on all platforms.

The Fall 2016 season will begin after a two week break.
