It’s good news and bad news for fans of two of Overwatch 2’s heroes, as game director Aaron Keller has detailed some of the balance changes coming to the game in Season 5 next week.

In the latest Director’s Take post, Keller has revealed that Season 4’s new hero – Lifeweaver – hasn’t quite been as popular as Blizzard were hoping, and while they’ve seen some impressive moves with him, the team want give players a reason to choose the new heroes over those existing on the roster. To that end, they’re going to make a number of buffs to the character next season, including “increases to his healing and damage output, a heal on Life Grip, a slightly reduced hitbox, and some quality-of-life changes to Petal Platform.”

However, if you’re a fan of Junker Queen, you might be in for some disappointment – as it seems her recent buffs in the mid -season 4 patch have proven a little too effective. Keller says she went from being one of the lowest picked heroes to one of the highest, thanks to the buffs – with the character becoming the most picked Tank class for those playing in Master tier and above. Her ability to withstand large amounts of damage is now a little too effective, Blizzard has decided, and so they’re reducing the health of Commanding Shout from 200 to 150 to compensate. They’re also going to make her ultimate a little more expensive to deploy, so she can’t spam games with it.

Aside from these balance changes, the team will also be looking to reduce the number of one-shot kills across the board in Season 5, with nerfs to Hanzo and Widowmaker’s one-shot abilities so that both heroes aren’t quite as lethal at long distances. There’ll also be some tweaks to Mei and Cassidy’s abilities, with the former changes said to make her weapon feel more like it did in the original Overwatch.

We’ll get to see those changes when they’re implemented in Overwatch 2 Season 5, which is currently slated to arrive around June 12/13. (We’re awaiting final confirmation from Blizzard.)
