Despite the criticism faced since its launch in late-2022, Overwatch 2 still remains incredibly popular. The series has a massive fanbase and the community is always sharing tips and tricks to help other players succeed. While there are a slew of tricks to get an advantage in the battlefield, an Overwatch 2 fan has debunked a popular trick believed to quicken reload speed.

In other Overwatch 2 news, Blizzard has finally addressed the community’s divisiveness over 5v5 replacing 6v6 from OW1. Blizzard is hopeful of reintroducing “different forms of 6v6” to OW2, but they first want to attempt this through tests. Away from this, another popular and new free-to-play game, The First Descendant, has faced some criticism for introducing a new character that allegedly uses a replica OW2 gun.

We do hope to see 6v6 return to OW2 in the future, and fans are pleased with Blizzard’s very detailed and thorough response to the community’s constant requests for it to come back. While the prospect of 6v6 coming back is great news from the developer, in the community one fan has debunked a popular myth surrounding an apparent trick to hasten reloading.

Overwatch 2 fan debunks quick reloading trick

On the Overwatch 2 subreddit, OP capital_of_kyoka has shared a post titled, ‘Despite what many people think, Quick Melee during Reaper reload actually does not speed up the time to shoot’.

The post is accompanied by a gameplay clip showing the comparisons. The top clip shows reloading with Quick Melee employed, while the bottom clip shows reloading normally. You can check out the comparison in the embedded Reddit post below:

Reacting to the comparison, one of the replies explains the origin of the trick and the myth surrounding it. Although Quick Melee does not let you shoot any quicker after reloading, it’s a popular myth partly because “On release quick melee did make you reload faster [but it] Was patched within the first few months of the game’s lifecycle”.

One comment says, “Hate that I am aware of it but my muscle memory for playing OW since its release tells me to melee every time on reload”. One of the comments argues, “It’s literally right there in the video the quick melee is slightly quicker,” but the OP responded, “No, I just didn’t time the clips correctly, it’s off by a frame or 2. Anyways, even if it was, that makes 0 difference in a real game”.

The OP’s post says Quick Melee is still useful for “extra damage,” to which a lot of the replies say, “So the melee damage is free with no penalty, might as well”. Another comment says, “It’s a free action, there is no risk in using it. It’s not free damage though”.

However, despite the belief that it is a “free action” with “no risk in using it,” this is debunked by other comments which say, “The risk is that you could miss the timing. Melee too late and you take longer to reload. Melee too early and you don’t reload at all”.
