Sony announced that 91.62 million PlayStation 2s have now been shipped around the world, with North America taking 37 million, Europe 33.21 million and Japan and Asia 21.41 million.
So far a whopping 863 million PlayStation 2 games have sold, with North America leading the way at 395 million units. Europe is again 2nd with 292 million, while Japan and Asia have combined sales of 176 million. Combined with the PSone, a total of 1.822 billion games have been shipped worldwide. PlayStation consoles are now available in over 120 countries with 5200 PlayStation 2 games and 7700 PSone games available.
With figures like these, it’s no wonder Sony are confident that the PlayStation 3 will rule the next-gen marketplace. However, this time around I suspect they won’t find market domination as easy.
