So consuming is the Call of Duty franchise that publisher Activision has more than 500 people working on the franchise, reports VentureBeat.

These 500 are split across four or five studios, working on a range of Call of Duty titles at any one time. This includes the restructured Infinity Ward – following the sacking of studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West – Black Ops studio Treyarch, Call of Duty Elite creator Beachhead Studios, and the Michael Condrey headed Sledgehammer Games.

Demonware, which handled network services for all the Call of Duty games, is the fifth studio involved in the franchise.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launched November 8, accompanied by Call of Duty Elite. The subscription element of Call of Duty: Elite will cost £34.99 a year.
