Over 5 million iPhone 5’s sold in just three days

Over five million iPhone 5s have been sold in just three days of availability in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the UK, Apple has announced.

This follows news of over two million pre-orders being placed in just 24 hours.

“Demand for iPhone 5 has been incredible and we are working hard to get an iPhone 5 into the hands of every customer who wants one as quickly as possible,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “While we have sold out of our initial supply, stores continue to receive iPhone 5 shipments regularly and customers can continue to order online and receive an estimated delivery date. We appreciate everyone’s patience and are working hard to build enough iPhone 5s for everyone.”

In addition, more than 100 million iOS devices have been updated with iOS 6.

Off contract the iPhone 5 will costs £529 for the 16GB version, all the way up to £699 for the 32GB version.
