Ubisoft has announced the first original Star Wars game for the PSP and Nintendo DS, in development at the company’s Montreal and Casablanca Studios, respectively. The games will take place between Episode III and Episode IV, and players will take control of Twi’lek Rianna Saren and her security droid Zeeo. The pair must work together to infiltrate the Imperial planets and uncover the Death Star.

Ubisoft is honoured to announce this exciting and innovative Star Wars game, the first original game in the legendary franchise built to take full advantage of the unique capabilities of both the PSP system and the DS,” said Serge Hascoet, chief creative officer at Ubisoft. “We have worked closely with LucasArts to create a game that further develops the Star Wars universe, and unveils some of the mysteries that have kept millions of fans enthralled for decades.

The two main characters must work together, using their individual strengths and skills to complete each mission, and both games will feature multiplayer support designed to enhance the collaborative-based gameplay. The adventure will take players to familiar locations from the movies and will feature well-known characters, including Boba Fett, Kyle Katarn, Princess Leia Organa, and Darth Vader.

Both versions of the game are due out in December 2006.
