EA plans to bring at least one of its bigger games to Nintendo Switch, though currently views the handheld device with cautious optimism, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed during the UBS Global Technology Conference in San Francisco yesterday.
“We’re excited for Nintendo, it’s an interesting device,” Jorgensen stated. “But I can’t yet predict how broad it’s going to be, and if folk will be interested in a portable device alongside their regular portable device that they already have.”
He added: “In their announcement they announced that we’ll be supporting with a game or two on that new platform. We haven’t yet announced what game, but you should assume that it’s one of our bigger games we’ve been involved with.”
If EA’s track record is anything to go by then early success for its games on the Switch will be important to ensure continued support for the platform. EA offered strong early support for Wii U, releasing Mass Effect 3, NFS Most Wanted, Madden and FIFA, but ceased support for the console after only a year.
So which “bigger game” could EA be bringing to Switch? The obvious choice is Battlefield 1 or a major sports title such as FIFA. Mass Effect: Andromeda could also be an option given the March release of the Switch.
