This is the latest of a string of announcements from Nintendo, highlighting the worldwide success of their latest handheld. The Nintendo DS has reached this milestone in under a year, having launched across Europe in March 2005. Throughout Europe almost 3.5 million units have been sold, with around 13 million in the hands of gamers across the world.
Sales in the UK and Europe have been helped by the release of hit games such as Nintendogs, which has sold 1.6 million copies in Europe since its launch in October, and Mario Kart DS, which has already managed 800,000 copies in Europe since November.
There is plenty to look forward to in the coming year with the release of AAA titles such as Animal Crossing: Wild World and Metroid Prime: Hunters.
