Secret Level, the Amazon Prime video game-themed animated anthology series, proposed an official Halo x DOOM crossover episode to Microsoft. With episodes based on God of War, Space Marine 2 and even Concord (still funny), a Halo, DOOM, or especially a crossover episode, could have been a huge boom for Xbox’s flagship franchises.
Unfortunately, Secret Level’s Halo x DOOM crossover episode was shut down by Microsoft. Despite the recent shake-ups for the Halo franchise, including reforming 343 Industries as Halo Studios, Microsoft didn’t want the episode to exist. Someone call the Prophet of Regret.
Microsoft kills Halo x DOOM crossover
In an interview by Collider, Secret Level writer Dave Wilson and Tim Miller revealed that the crossover was fully written by the team. The team spent an entire weekend crafting an “impassioned letter of my childhood”, but were immediately shut down by Microsoft.
“We wanted to make a Master Chief/DOOM Slayer crossover episode, and I spent a whole weekend crafting this impassioned letter of my childhood.,” Wilson explained. “And it’s exactly what Tim said; they were like, ‘Nah’.”
Considering the length of production time on Secret Level, it would make sense that Microsoft didn’t allow any inclusion of Master Chief due to the debut of the official Halo TV show by Paramount. While the TV show did have some redeeming features, such as its action scenes, and Season 2 was quite decent, it wasn’t what fans wanted.
Nevertheless, we don’t know for sure why Microsoft shut down Secret Level’s Halo x DOOM crossover, or why just a standard DOOM episode didn’t exist. Hopefully, there’s not a third terrible DOOM movie on the way—we can’t take another one.
