“I have seen the Gates of Oblivion, beyond which no waking eye may see. Behold! A Glock!” That’s not exactly what Emperor Uriel Septim VII said at the start of Oblivion Remastered, but I guess his 87 years of constant prophecies didn’t account for this.
After modders have figured out how to inject custom scripts into the latest Elder Scrolls game, we’ve seen the arrival of settlement building and even Pokemon-like Monster Catching. But what’s better than that? A functioning handgun.
Oblivion Remastered gets a f*****g gun
Talented modder CosmicBoogaloo has created the first functioning gun in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, adding a Glock, .22 Long Rifle ammunition and a functioning gun holster into the fantasy RPG.
“Mehrunes Dagon owes me some money and I’m gonna get it one way or another,” the modder said on Nexus Mods. The so-called God of Destruction never prepared for a weapon like this.
To showcase the new handgun mod in action, CosmicBoogaloo strutted through an Oblivion Gate and gunned down everything inside. Not even the most powerful Dremora can tank a full clip.
The Glock Mod for Oblivion Remastered is built atop of the pre-existing Slick Archery mod by Dicene. This mod allows for faster bow combat with quicker equips, rapid arrow draw and more.
“This firing logic is what makes the weapon function as a true firearm in-game,” CosmicBoogaloo said. “I received explicit permission from Dicene to include and modify their mod as part of this release. Big shoutout to them — please support their work!”
The mod also comes with an additional “optional Iron Bow replacement file”. This optional file turns all default bows across the entirety of Cyrodil into Glock handguns, turning the game into some kind of fantasy Americana. The modder is also working on adding more guns to the game that can make sure every NPC in the game is packing heat.
Even without official modding tools from Bethesda, Elder Scrolls modders are still working hard to bring the same zaniness of past titles to the latest RPG. Just think what would’ve been possible with actual mod tools. Oh well, at least Elder Scrolls 6 is coming out within our lifetimes. Hopeful statement, I know.
