They Shall Not Pass, the first slice of downloadable content for Battlefield 1, is now free to grab for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One, developer DICE has announced.

The acclaimed World War I shooter has four expansion in total, although They Shall Not Pass is pretty significant as it introduces the French army faction plus a new class, the Trench Raider, who love nothing more than to smack enemies around with a spiky club and make a mess with grenades.

The expansion also fleshes out Battlefield 1's multiplayer shenanigans, with four new maps added to the lineup: Fort De Vaux, Soissons, Verdun Heights, and Rupture. You may recall that the latter map was made available as a free download just the other week. In addition, players can tuck into two new Operations in the shape of The Devil's Anvil and Beyond the Marne.

DICE confirmed last month that it will be winding down support for Battlefield 1 this summer, with no more monthly updates in the pipeline. That's not really surprising, seeing as how Battlefield 5 is just around the corner.

Battlefield 1 was released in October 2016, and if you haven't already played it yet you're missing out on one of the best shooters of the current generation of hardware.
