LittleBigPlanet 2, which is to kick off Sony’s 2011 line-up for PS3, won’t feature steroscopic 3D visuals, Sony’s Mark Valledor has confirmed.
Posting in response to a reader question on the US PlayStation Blog, Valledor said: “Sorry, no 3D this time around.”
No reason for the decision not to support 3D was given.
LittleBigPlanet 2 will be released in January, but fans will be able to get their hands on a demo and PS Move standalone game later this month.
It’s surprising to hear that one of Sony’s tentpole PS3 titles will launch without support for 3D, especially when the company is doing its utmost to sell the new tech to consumers.
Earlier this year, SCEE senior director Mikr Hocking told VideoGamer.com that LBP2 looked “stunning” in 3D, describing the visuals as “toy-like”.
“We’ve done some R&D with the game and it looks stunning in 3D,” he said. “It looks toy-like. It looks like you can grab things in the game. The guys haven’t announced what they are doing yet, but if they did it would be stunning in 3D.”
It’s a shame then that gamers won’t get to experience this.
