Nioh 3 loves its locked doors, and sometimes the way to find the key is just to kill whatever’s nearby. Other times, however, things get a little trickier. Such is the case with the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base.
Near the Mikatagahara Junction shrine, there’s a path up to a door that I just couldn’t open, meaning that I was blocked from fully clearing out the Hamamatsu Hill map. That frustration couldn’t be remedied by anything in the area, though. I had to be patient and do my side quests to get into the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base for myself. Here’s what I did.
VideoGamer Summary
-Nioh 3’s Hamamatsu Hill enemy base isn’t immediately accessible.
-You’ll need to do some side quests with Ii Naotora first, before she gives you the key.
-Once you’ve got the key in your possession, the base will no doubt fall easily.
Opening the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base

When it comes to locked doors, I’ve found that Nioh 3, unlike Dark Souls, just wants you to move on to do some side questing. I completed the ‘Fated Land’ quest, reclaiming Ryotan temple alongside Ii Naotora.
I’d already picked this up earlier, shortly after dealing with the first major crucible of Nioh 3. After I’d returned from the Eternal Rift, the quest was right there waiting for me.
After dealing with the Yokai at Ryotan Temple, I followed Ii Naotora back to Hamamatsu Castle. She handed over the quest ‘Ii’s Memento’, and with it, I got the Mountain Temple Key.
Now I was one step closer to checking this task off my list, so I headed to the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base.
Clearing out the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base

The Hamamatsu Hill enemy base was quite small, and I found only five simple enemies standing between me and its destruction.
After I defeated the smaller Yokai, I spawned the boss of the area, a Ninja Yoki. It was fast, and it took off more of my health than I’d perhaps like to admit, but once it had been destroyed, the Dark Realm surrounding the Hamamatsu Hill enemy base was dispersed.
However, my time here wasn’t done quite yet. I looted a body for a Samurai Lock upgrade point and moved on to finish the ‘Ii’s Memento’ side quest with a boss fight against a vengeful spirit.
The vengeful spirit was a warrior enemy with a decent health bar and some serious blocking skills.
I parried their attacks to create an opening, and otherwise made use of paralysing shuriken to force chances to smash them with my heavy axe.
With that enemy vanquished, I could breathe easy with one more checkmark on my map.
