Last week, following a series of Wii related accidents, Nintendo issued a press release outlining a Wii Remote wrist strap replacement program. In addition Nintendo has also released the following set of safety guidelines which players of the Wii are advised to follow – or else you might smash your TV with the Wii Remote or lamp someone with a Nunchuck.
The following tips are advised for safe play:
- Always wear the wrist strap while playing.
- Keep a firm grip on the Wii Remote at all times.
- Make sure people and objects are out of the range of movement before play begins.
Other things to keep in mind include:
- Players should keep at least three feet from their televisions and should dry their hands if they become moist.
- Remember that the Wii Remote is responsive enough to detect minor movements – so excessive and forceful actions are not necessary.
- The motions made are similar to real-life sports games, but the force is not.
Those who have an old style wrist strap can take Nintendo up on its offer for a free replacement by contacting your nearest Nintendo Service Centre. This can be achieved in a number of ways: via email ([email protected]), telephone (0870 60 60 247 – national rate) or post (Wii Wrist Strap, Nintendo Service Centre, CoDEStorm House, Walton Road, Farlington, PO6 1TR). North American readers can call 1-800-859-4519 or visit support.nintendo.com.
Consumers buying a Wii from a new shipment should find that the included wrist strap is the new safer version.
