Nintendo has announced that a new Nintendo DS Zelda title is to be released later this year. The new game, tentatively titled The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, was shown in a brief trailer at the end of Satoru Iwata’s keynote address at GDC.

Details on the new game are scarce, although the video did show Link fighting a scorpion and Princess Zelda was also shown reading something. A map is featured on the top screen, while gameplay takes place on the bottom screen.

According to Nintendo the concept behind Spirit Tracks includes utilising a steam locomotive to travel around the world, switching Phantom and Link to explore the dungeons, and solving puzzles using new items.

More on this when we get it.
